Philosophers' Corner
Unfortunately, in our post-modern, post-classical western culture, cannibalism is on the rise again as people and corporations embrace secular fatalism in their efforts to compete, survive, and secure wealth. Fetal body parts and their derivatives promise to assuage the ravages of disease and age in our youth-worshiping culture and by holding the keys (DNA) for making new vaccines and even making products more palatable to human taste. Yet in the pursuit of these gains, we are returning to the darkness of the ancient primitives as we feast on the children offered up to our cultural idols of money, self, youth, beauty, and competitive advantage.
Thankfully, not all major corporations are participating in such dehumanizing utilitarian exploitation of those lost to choices not their own. Many corporations seek the high road in bringing new products to market. It is to those corporations that we dedicate this website.
Beauty
What is beauty?
Beauty has changed over the ages and usually reflects the values of the particular culture. Ancient fertility idols usually had large breasts and large tummies to show the woman's ability to procreate and nurture her offspring. This capability to create and nurture life was synonymous with beauty.
As a culture, we are struggling with the realities of aging and reproduction. Perhaps as a society, we are living in fear of death and economic bondage. Children seem to tie into this fear. While not rational, many associate having children with premature aging and financial hardship. This fear may be reflected in our current notion of beauty--the emaciated, cocaine addicted femme fatale. But fear has a way of overtaking those most fearful.
If today's runway models are taken as our culture's standard of beauty, then as a culture we honor women more as ethereal goddesses than as real progenitors of our kind. If still considered representatives of fertility idols, than modern models tell of a post-child society, one in which women--not their reproductive capabilities--are revered. And, most tragically, these women are willing to kill themselves by anorexia and drugs and their own children while still in their wombs in order to maintain their "goddess" status.
Culture
Western societies have migrated from the ancient tribal cannibalism and religious-rite child sacrifice to modern constitutional government that upholds the rights of the powerless in democratic republics. However, it seems western culture is currently drifting back into a post-modern, corporate-led cannibalism that shamelessly capitalizes on human cell lines from aborted children. We are more like China with its forced abortion and human baby "dying rooms" than the Judeo-Christian culture that defeated Hilter's genocide of non-Aryans.
Given our moral decay and perversion of justice, it is doubtful that today's America would be capable of winning World War II again. We, ourselves, have become the evil that we once decried. We might not even be able to recognize evil if face to face with it, so darkened is our cultural mind.
State of Mind
What is secular fatalism? How it is derived from the modern model of ourselves as originating from undirected, random-process, materialistic evolution?
Why are we embracing cannibalism?
Have we embraced the same philosophy that justified the Jewish Holocaust - namely that we opportunistically use those that threaten our economic advantage? It is ironic that innocent unborn humans pose an economic threat to modern western society. We are obeying fear as we destroy our future generations.
